Cypress Gardens, located in Winter Haven, Florida, was once one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state. Founded in 1936 by Dick and Julie Pope, the gardens started as a way to showcase Florida’s native plants and wildlife. Over the years, the park expanded to include a variety of attractions, including water ski shows, botanical gardens, and a Southern Belles show.

One of the main highlights of Cypress Gardens was its water ski shows. The park’s water skiing team, known as the “Cypress Gardens Ski Show,” became world-renowned for their daring stunts and precision choreography. Visitors from all over the world flocked to the park to witness the thrilling performances, making it one of Florida’s most beloved attractions.

In addition to the water ski shows, Cypress Gardens also featured beautifully landscaped gardens filled with native plants and flowers. The botanical gardens were a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and visitors could meander through the grounds, taking in the natural beauty of the landscape.

Another popular attraction at Cypress Gardens was the Southern Belles show, which featured a group of young women dressed in Southern antebellum-style dresses. The show showcased traditional Southern hospitality and charm, and the belles would often pose for photos with visitors, adding to the park’s nostalgia and charm.

Sadly, Cypress Gardens closed its doors in 2009, after nearly 75 years of operation. However, the park’s legacy lives on, as its former grounds have been transformed into the Legoland Florida Resort. The resort features a water park, rides, and attractions, while still paying homage to the park’s original botanical gardens.

Today, visitors to the former site of Cypress Gardens can still catch glimpses of its former glory, with some of the original gardens and landmarks preserved for historical significance. While the park may be gone, its impact on Florida’s tourism industry and its place in the hearts of those who visited will never be forgotten.
